Who was the legendary super saiyan that frieza heard about? Meaning who was it that started the legend of the super saiyan?

Wrong it was bardock he was sent back in time and fought Frieza's ancestor Chilled. During which was angered to the point of turning super saiyan and beating Chilled. But he survived like Frieza does later on and when picked up to be revived he had his men warn the others of a saiyan of legendary strength. A super saiyan.
