idk why these threads keep popping up, but just for the record -- there are actual marginalized individuals and entire communities whose lives are seriously misrepresented and dictated by normalized versions of societal existence.
The Internet is a bad place to get a good idea of what happens in the real world. Jokes about "straight white male hating" really only helps make a joke out of the whole issue of socio economic / gender / sexual / class / racial inequalities

So, YOU'RE that person that comments on The Onion like its real news

Lighten up Francis

I picture you in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, "I'm being oppressed!"

That's because the "issue" IS a joke in modern days.
-
That's because the "issue" IS a joke in modern days.
If you take out "that's because the" and "sue is a joke in modern days"... You're left with "ISIS" OMG. OMG OMG ?!?!

mind = blown (heheh blown)

What are you talking about? The internet is the perfect place to joke about real life! Seriously though, i agree. I cringe every time someone says you can't be sexist towards men because patriarchy, or you can't be racist towards whites because white privilege.
-
The first half of your post is pretentious.

This guy knows what's up
This guy knows what's up
He knows how far your nose is up his asshole.

Oh hey there, Mr. Takesthingswaytodamnseriously how are you today?
-
So are you denying the existence of straight white male hating?

Inequalities are inherent to the human experience. Every time a set of ideals decided to "eliminate" them, they ended up eliminating whatever was different, be it discording ideas or discording people. Examples abound, and quick search of the internet about these idealist fools will yield a macabre set of statistics. We should do away with this mindset that differences should be eliminated and start being good to each other. Then the world will truly change.

Completely agree...

Can you give some examples? You may interpret this as being an asshole, but prove your point.

COUNTMEOUT88, Although I agree with your point as noted in a post further down I must take exception to one item.
The Internet is a bad place to get a good idea of what happens in the real world.
The Internet is a part of the real world, and that which occurs via the internet is definitely representative of the systemic and discursive violence of our respective societies. If there is a distinction to be drawn it is that online the indoctrinated bigotry, pettiness and narcissism is simply louder.
-
*facepalm* Why do you think the common convention is to label it the "online world"? Anonymity is a fundamental difference that separates the two. There are even separate laws and governing authorities. Using the fact that we are still alive and in the same plane of existence shows a lack of reasoning. The internet troll is a basic example, of which there is no equivalent in normal society. There's two possibilities here. Either you spend far too much time online and are losing perspective of reality, or you are actually new to the internet and not fully aware of your surroundings. Indoctrinated bigotry? The only conclusion I can draw from this is that you don't know what indoctrinated even means. Really, it makes no sense at all. It's almost as if you actually believe that widespread bigotry never existed before the internet. Representative of discursive violence? Did you just fumble around a dictionary or are you quoting something you thought sounded intelligent, completely out of context?
-
The common convention is to label it the online world because people in large groups tend towards over all stupidity. A person is quite capable of great leaps of brilliance people tend to be morons. argumentum ad populum is a fallacious argument that concludes a proposition is true because many or most people believe it. In other words, the basic idea of the argument is: "If many believe so, it is so." The postings on this forum are not Anonymous, you are incorrect. I have considered explaining it here however I have decided to explain it in its own post to make it easier to clarify in the future and not have to re-explain it every time someone uses this false argument. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/80382512 The equivalent to an internet troll does exist. They are called hecklers and they appear at comedy shows and various kinds of forums, discussions and theatrical performances. They thrive on being a disruptive influence.
it is that online the indoctrinated bigotry, pettiness and narcissism is simply louder
The statement of mine that you indicated that you do not understand means the following. When people communicate via the internet the indoctrinated bigotry, pettiness and narcissism that these people possess in person is communicated with greater apparent volume. Volume being both a metaphor and a play on words.

Hahaha now you think you're right and the rest of the world is wrong. No one has any individual thought but you. You're so enlightened! My goodness, you're concerned about narcissism but you're probably the biggest narcissist on the forum. You genuinely think you need to educate everyone on your opinion that online anonymity is a myth. Argumentum ad populum isn't even relevant in this instance. I didn't state that I was right because it is the general convention. The fact that it is a general convention does not make the distinction between everyday life and the online world incorrect. I also never stated that there was a separation of poor character demonstrated online not being indicative of a person having poor character. Your little off topic thread has gained no recognition whatsoever. No one cares for your self important delusions of grand intellect. You also failed to prove your point. You don't know my name, age, race, sexuality, phone number, or address. You're reasoning is circular. Anonymity is dependent on disclosure. The fact that is possible to find information doesn't make it implicit that it is known. You're wrong. A heckler is a weak approximation of the internet troll. You know it is. It took you over a day to come up with that and it's poor. There is a distinct different between not understanding a statement and that same statement being nonsensical. In your arrogance you naturally concluded the former. Another benefit of the internet is it's quite simple for me to ignore you. Something I would not be able to do so simply anywhere else. In case you can't figure out what that means... You're blocked. I won't dignify you with any further response. I know that will make you mad but it's for the best. You need to learn that people aren't interested in what you have to say.
-
Thank you. I realize that you have stated that you have blocked me and I hope that is true. In the event that you haven't perhaps you should go ahead and continue with your perceived threat. My preference would be that you block me so that you do not see my posts. In this way I am ensured that you will no longer respond to them. Your responses and suppositions are false and your contribution to this conversation represents noise. I point of clarification on my part. Yes I am a narcissist, I have admitted that in a variety of posts, I am okay with that. Self awareness and maturity are not the absence of that which is perceived negative. It is the knowledge of those traits within oneself and the active decision to act with full understanding of the consequences and empathy for those around one. As to anonymity being dependent on disclosure, if your statement is correct then your previous statement is false. You made a great deal of noise about internet anonymity however if, as you say, everyone is always anonymous until information is known about them then everyone in person is just as anonymous or more so than those on the internet. If you wish to argue that definition of anonymous my point will still stand as my point was not my opinion but a fact. Your inability to understand reason is not my failure to reason. Thank you again for choosing to not engage with me, I appreciate the consideration.

You'd be right if it was real life but this is just an online game. Making a joke of them is the only thing that makes sense. None of these things matter in the anonymous world of online gaming. You can be anyone you want if you must. Just be yourself. We're all normal. None of us are a beautiful or unique snowflake that deserves special attention. Unnecessarily telling people why you think you're special is attention seeking that will, and should, be met with derision. Everyone should get over themselves and have fun. This is just a game.
