I don't think they are arc because when you are killed by it it says killed by darkness blast.

It's definitely arc, it's why they are such a pain when there is arc burn.

they do extra damage during nightfall (if you haven't noticed) and are blue :p

I now that they are blue but I thought the adjective, darkness, meant void.

Those are Arc? Never realized that. I was thinking in terms of the acolytes, and the general darkness theme the Hive have going on.
