Destruction is the only true ending that makes since. Think about it what's your whole goal the entire game. STOP THE REAPPEARS. So when faced with the decision why did you not destroy them.
Because I couldn't destroy all synthetics. I had already destroyed the geth for the sole purpose of saving tali, and I hated myself for it. I couldn't destroy anymore possibilities of life. I wasn't going to control them either. I didn't see myself as a god like the illusive man did. I didn't want to control them. Synthesis made sense. The reapers were no longer destructive and even friendly seeing as how their minds are from the civilizations of cycles, the cycle ended, and synthetics would never turn on organics. Believe me, I had every intention of destroying the reapers, and until I had heard the catalyst tell me about synthesis, I was going to destroy them.
