Maybe if we paid people at fast food jobs enough to actually sustain a lifestyle above the poverty line they would work harder.

I'm a 17 year old male working a fast food restaurant. I train people, close down an entire kitchen and restaurant every night, and tell people what to do. I'm not even an assistant manager, or even a shift leader at that. I do 3x the work that all of my managers do, and I get paid SHIT. I make 7.50$ and hour, and you're telling me I don't deserve more money than someone else doing less work than me? Please come work here and learn yourself a little something. You can't just "go get a new job" or "go get a degree". I pay my damn taxes like everyone else in this country and I'm not even an adult yet, I'd say I damn well deserve atleast 8.50$ an hour IF NOT 9.00$. Fast food is the only option for some people.

First of all, I didn't tell you anything. If fast food jobs pay $7.50 an hour where you're at, that's what they're worth. If you want more, talk to your manager, not your senator. Or go find a new job. Saying that fast food is the only option is a lame excuse. I have worked since I was 9 years old and I have never worked in the food industry. (Started out selling newspapers) Also, if you make that amount of money, you're not paying any federal income tax. State tax maybe, depending on which state you live in. Even that is doubtful based on your income. Point is, this is an issue with your employer, not a legislative issue.

I actually didn't even mean to reply to your post, but I was too lazy to fix it. Anyhow, it pretty much is my only option in Suburban Atlanta. There really isn't shit to do here except fastfood, wash cars, or be a paperboy; in that case that job is virtually obsolete with the amount of mailcars we have. You can go to our local Mcdonalds and sometimes see 3-5 mail trucks. In the case of my job "only being worth 7.50$" UMM, NO. Half the shit I do in there is manual labor at closing because the new people don't know how to do literally anything. I do more work than 30 year old people in there. Its just the fact that I'm a minor so they don't want to pay me more even though they know I bust my balls in there more than almost anyone. And before you get into any "odd jobs", its winter, therefore no mowing lawns, etc. I will also not degrade myself to raking leaves strictly based on the fact that anything you rake in Georgia is immediately back the next day anyways. /rant

The market says it's worth $7.50, not me. Like I said, it sounds like your local management is crappy. If you're working that hard, you should ask for a raise. The problem with low skilled jobs is that they can replace you easily, hence the low pay. Don't pigeon hole yourself. There are other jobs if you just look and apply yourself. Think outside the box.
