I don't know how you can possibly think this. The range of the shotguns is pathetic. They are terrible weapons, and the nerf just made them completely useless. The only way they are good is if you camp or if an enemy runs right into you.
Perhaps what you see is their extensive use. But just because a particular weapon is effective does not mean it's OP. If all the maps had no cover, snipers would be overused, but not OP. The reason you perceive shotguns as being so OP is because of the monotopographical maps. They all have tons of cover and force almost all play into very tight spaces where it's easy to camp.

Im not saying they are overpowered because of their continued use, I am saying they are overpowered because of their insane range! especially with the mod that increases the effective range while aiming. Now I know that this is a "futuristic game" and "weapon technology has improved", but If you are going to try and tell me that a scatter-shot can 1sk an armored and shielded enemy at 20+ft in PvP, there is something wrong.

Don't use the tape measure that you use to measure your junk to measure distance in game, that's where all the confusion is coming from. 20' on that tape measure is only about one yard.

I know what you are saying, I'm simply saying that I think it's your perception due to their ubiquity. Also, I think you are getting shotguns and fusion rifles confused on the fly. There are DEFINITELY some fusion rifles that are absolutely ridiculous. I was playing against one the other night. This guy just sniped me with one shot from a pretty good distance (A flag on Earth to top of opposite stairs). There was ZERO skill in that. At least with shotguns they need to be smart to get into position.
