As far as I know, and couple of tests I've done, embrace the void only activates the energy drain, but NOT its modifiers. Only by using your melee attack, you will get the modifiers. Also, energy drain does not stack. So if you melee an enemy, grenade another immediately, you will get one energy drain, not two. Hope that helps.
