Home team doesn't need to wait for a callout. If you pay attention to your tracker, it will tell you which portal to open. You will see green arrows either to the right or left, and that's the one you open.
Why people make such a big deal about communication of portals is beyond me.

Communication is convenient and audio cues are more easier to notice.

Well everyone doesn't no that radar trick. Communication is fast and reliable, it makes it perfectly clear to everyone what to do and when. But of course that is just my opinion.
