ascendant mats apeared before from engrams. they only upgraded the rarity because of the patch on the cryptark and to better associate the mats with the gear, it's working as intended now. not supoosed to be easy.

ok, i get that, but when i get more materials out of legendary weapon engrams than i do actual weapons, it gets annoying. and now that all my characters have rare or higher gear its even more annoying that the ever elusive legendary engram simply yields materials that i can already get from 4 other sources (daily missions, weekly missions, public events and a chance to drop from chests)

i love all my legendaries, all except three of them (accross all my characters) i had to buy via vanguard marks.. and i have bought a total of 4 exotics, earned the thorn via bounty and now i have the bounty for really good advice... but that doesnt change the fact that there are already enough sources to get Ascendant Materials from, and in quite common fashion as well, i would like to at least see at bear minimum a reduced chance of getting said materials over gear. if not a complete rarity downgrade. Or another possible solution is to remove the ability to get them from engrams completely. make it so you can only earn them by way of events, chests, and daily/weekly content.
