Not sure if this is relevant, but you can shoot guns off fallen dropships. There are also two spots, one behind each gun arm that can be damaged, but I don't know what effect destroying those has.

You can also shoot the rocket launcher off cabal dropships. I believe you can shoot them down but i never do enough damage before they leave.

I noticed just yesterday that you can hit the orb launchers on hive ships too.

That's kool, i thought it took damage but in phogaths lair the orb guns are the least of my worries. lol i cant recall getting shot by them any other time excpet in the hellmouth.

Could you imagine a fight where you had to slowly dismantle a dropship piece by piece? Otherwise it would just drop progressively stronger troops.

That would be awesome. I was wondering why we never have a defense style mission using the AA guns in the Crucible. They never use them once in PvE. It seems a waste to not have a mission where we take out drop ships. They could even use the same tired "defend dinkbot" strategy but have us use the AA gus to take out the ships instesd of troops. Destiny: land of unfilled dreams and broken promises.
