Strikes you have to get legendary engrams, raids you need to be lucky (done the raid about 6 times and only gotten 1 raid gear), nightfall gives a lot of strange coins or legendary/exotic items, and heroic gives 3 strange coins for every higher difficulty. The strange coins can be used to buy exotics from Xur.
