It won't help you get the one you claim to have lost. But going forward your loot will be much safer. I don't know how good Bungies records are if they can go in and see that you got the loot. If it's server side then it shouldn't matter if you got the loot and then crashed it would have it stored on the server. If it's client side which I doubt you would get the loot in game and then it would send to the server what you got. The client based method would be ripe for mods so I doubt this is the approach they take. My guess is that it is server side. Good luck with getting it.

I only claim to have "lost" it because it is nowhere to be found after it was awarded to me as loot for defeating atheon. inventory...nope, vault...nope, other charcters...nope. You must understand that...whether it was me...the server...or the game, i don't care. Once you beat the raid on hard 3 times to get what you were actually working for, for the raid, (the vex mythoclast for my case) there is no sh*ts given how you lost...you simply want what is rightfully yours. That's pretty much it man. I mean... the game shutdown on me...not much i could have done to prevent that now, is there
