This game is not meant to be a tradtional rpg. it is a rpg but not in the manner that most who played rpgs would expect it to be. Never expect a game to always follow tradtion just because other have in the past. This game is attempting to be something different thatn just any one the aspects that it is. So it is not going to focus on any one aspect to the exclusion of the others.
Whaaa... I have to pvp to get exotics.. I dont like pvp.. dont make me pvp.. whaaa!!!!.. get over it. The game was not made for it to play just how you wanted or expected it to play. Nor should it be tailored to just any one person and how they want it to play either. You want those exotics, then go pvp.. or else just deal with it.
Whaaa.. cant get mats from teh queens items to level your gear quickly.. tough, it was not meant to be abused like that. Just like the cave was not meant to abaused as it was. Tough if you dont like it was changed and the game was made a little harde to get mats for uprades..
There is no reason for the ships to give mats, for there is nothing special about the ships, they just take you from planet to planet. So no reason to really need anything from them. There is no need to upgrade them, so no need for mats from them.
The speeders can get upgrades from xur, so no real need to get mats from them for upgrades either. Not everything has to or needs to be upgradeable in a rpg game.
Not every item in a game has to give out mats when it is destroyed just because someone thinks it does, or because some other game did. Not every game has to follow the same method of play as every other game similar to it. Tough if you dont like or understand that simple fact.
Whaaa the social contact level in the game is not enough. I dont have 100000000 emotes I can do to be stupid looking when doing them. The game was not built for that aspect of rpg.
The rpg aspect is in the leveling of the toons, not in doing everything that every other rpg has done in the past. And no it does not need to do all of those things either.
There is a story, just not presented in the manner that everyone seemed to expect as in the tradtional cgi cutscene driven games.. plus you were not meant to learn about everything in the first game, You were not meant to have a full story and know all of what happened and why in the first game. Tough if you dont like the card as being part of the content. for yes even though it is not directly accessable in the game it is still part of the content regardless if anyone tries to say othewise.
Did any of the Star Wars movie's explain it all? No they did not. Did any Lotr explain it all in one movie? No, they did not.
Not every game has to have 40+ hours of game play just because that is what some have become used to in games. I guess you never heard of or played Section 8? A fps game that had a story that was only 2 hours long from begining to end and that was on the hard setting. And yet the players of that game did not whine nearly as much as the players of this game has for a story that is over that lenght by far if you do every mission, strike, bounties and patrol and dont try and rush them.
WoW some people will cry about anything in today's world it seems when things are not handed to them or they are not allowed to do as they think they should all the time...because they feel they are entitled to for just a price of 60$....

I was about to contribute to the argument but then tl;dr happened haha
-
*warning* dont feed the troll *warning* // in the unlikely event this is not a troll... // ignore the spewing of the ignorant As a side not, the op made a lot of valid arguments pinpointing some of the crucial single point failures in the game. Do I continue to play it? Yes. Because the gunplay is just that awesome. Destiny is not all that and a bag of chips thoigh. And I wouldn't recommend any of my friends go out of their way to biy it.
-
!!Warning!! Ignore the fool !!Warning!! [Ignore the fools beliefs about what the op has said] Destiny was never claimed to be all that and a bag of chips it is the players that assumed it would be by what was said. Not the developers fault for this assumption being made. This game is not meant for everyone nor was it ever going to be a game made for everyone that everyone would like how it played or worked or how the story was done in it. The so called crucial failure points are mainly in the OPs mind and not truly failure's for no game has to be exactly what the OP wanted it to be ever. No developer has to make the game in the manner how the OP wanted ever. No game has to have the features or story the way the OP wanted ever. Each game developer is completely allowed to decide in what manner to create the game and tell the story and what features it should have and can be completely different than what is the norm of other games. They do not have to follow suit or do what other games have done just because those game developers did do that. Not every game has the have the level of depth of play and experience or story about each of the characters as the op wanted. or have the character customization that the op wanted, or the number of events or design and flow that the op wanted. Nor does Bungie owe the op or anyone any apology that Destiny did not have those things either. If the op foolishly set their expectations to the a level high enough that they were not met and then disappointed it is the ops fault alone. no company ever has to meet all the players expectations about how a game will be ever. It is the players responsibility to make sure the know enough about the game before buying. Never pre-order, never buy at launch day, always rent first if unsure. If you don't and are not happy about the game later the only one at fault is you the buyer.
-
You did not pay 60-100 for section 8 either. When I pay that much for something, I am going to have high expectation of it and I am not the only one.

For all you haters of those of us who feel ripped off, the consumer votes with their dollar in the economic democracy of capitalism. If we all just accepted mediocrity and lies as you do, every product would have the same quality as McDonald's food. You gain nothing by bashing us, but if you and every other player joined in, the worst that could happen is we would all receive some free content which we deserve. Think about it.
-
Sorry but wrong you dont deserve free content just because you want to think you do because you didnt like how the game turned out. Bungie does not owe you anything special ever just becuase you are not happy with how the game turned out when it was released.
-
True that part is my opinion. I feel we all deserved a little more (Mainly story.) But what about the rest of my comment? What is to be gained by demeaning those of us who voiced our dissatisfaction? Criticism and questions are what drive things to evolve and become better. Granted not all of the complaints are constructive, however bungie needed to know that many of us felt this way, and hopefully it will result in some dlc packed with the content we all want. And if it is great I will have no problem purchasing it.
-
There is fine line between where what is criticism and what is complaing about a game not being exacftly how you expected or wanted it to be. My point is too many people on these forums think they are entitled to the game beign how they want it to be, when no they really are not. They feel they are special or privledged and that Bungie has to listen to them and do as they say, when again no they are not and Bungie does not. No one here is really special or entitled to anything no matter what they think or feel ever no mater how many people ever told them they were and that others had to listen to them. Sure players can voice their feelings on the game but does not mean Bungie has to listen or do as said or wanted ever. In the end Bungie decides what the game will be like, the players just decide if they continue to play it or buy the dlc or not. A lot of the crying and deamands about what the game has to be like are just childish as much as someone saying ,"I want the game to be played only like this" and then expecting Bungie to cower to them and give them what they want when Bungie by no means has to do that ever, nor should they really. Feedback when done correctly helps the game evovle. when done incorrectly it just provides information that players were not happy' but does not help the game evolve beyond that point. The problem is when feedback becomes demands and commands and threats and false expectations that the developer has to listen and do as is said by the player. Just so many people come here and say what the game HAS to have or HAS to be like or HAS to do or HAS to have fixed. When really those are not true has, but just player wants.. which are not always truly needed in the game no matter how much that player wants to think they are. Somethings may get added, others wont, yet players still try and demand the game be catered to how they want it to be. when the game was not ever made for just one player, or one group of players or one type or style of player ever. But some like to think it was.
-
You sure argue a lot for a guy who hasn't played the game. Your points are tedious and vague, and you have the bio of a troll. I will say no more.
-
I have played the game you fool of a tool. there is an option on these forums in the privacy that allows a person not to show any game play activity to the public. Nor do I have to let others see it just becuase they want to either to prove I have played the game or how I play or when I last played or what I play as or how. That part in my bio is for anyone that thinks that ever calling me one will ever have any effect on me. Using the word troll against someone you dont like in how they repsond makes you an immature child for not being able to handle or accept people that do not agree with what you say or want. This is the interent. I do not have to be polite, nice, friendly, likeable, positive at all ever. Calling a person a troll hoping to upset them or get them to change how they post is nothing more then childish highschool antics.

Lol you'll go on forever won't you

Word.

Jeez. Listen guy, I read your responses, and honestly, you are defending things that are obviously flawed, for what reason? At this point you're defense is only hurting you. Bungie made an attempt at a genre they have never touched before, and the succeeded in many ways, but failed in many more. Their successful areas are, unsurprisingly, the areas they have actual experience with(shooting). They need to get some people that can tell a story and know what rpg elements people want. As for your "they never said" arguments, yes, they did. They said all those things then copped out with the worst mmo elements and a grimoire that you can only access through a secondary device(the exact opposite of immersion?) The game is all right, and people play a lot due to rng and the illusion of content(repetition), but it should be great. It can be great. Unless, of course, we all listen to you and pretend the game is super fantastic as it is.
-
It is not hurting me at all. Bungie knows how to tell stories, they did quite well with the Halo series. So they do not need any other help in doing that, Not all stories ahve to be told the same way each time just because players think so. NO, they did not. They never said any of that WOULD be in the final release ever. And that is your problem and many other players. You assumed it would be when it was never promised that it would be. It is the first of the series it was not ever going to be as great as everyone thought it should or could or would have been. No game ever really is. All games have flaws at launch none are ever perfect in how they work or play or how they are delivered to the players who play it. This game is no exception to that rule either. So no it was not going to be perfect or done like all the other game similar to it.

Let me tell you a story. There's a bad guy, he wants us all dead. Go to another planet and find something. You are doing well, there's another group out here doing something, you should be interested. Ill tell you about it later, maybe. Come home! Go back out there, kill that bad thing because I said so! Good work! Everyone party even though everything you've done has had absolutely no effect on anything at all! Take this gun..... Because. Please pay us $17. To continue the story! There, I told a story in a different way than most would, guess its good simply because its different! You're disconnected from reality, friend. Don't bother arguing, you're not worth any more time, I simply wanted to put this here for a record of your delusions.
-
no. I am not disconnected from reality at all. It is you and everyone else that is by thinking they had to give you the story in the manner that you are used to ie; lots of cgi cut-scenes and spoken dialog. When no they never did no matter what you want to think ever.
-
Edited by Apollos: 12/3/2014 2:08:01 PMWhy are you still defending the fact that they at least told the story in a poor way?
-
Your response was nonsense. Everything this guy said was spot on. You clearly have NO idea what your blathering about. Seriously. Your reply is pure junk.
-
Actually no it is not, and what he said is not spot on just because you try to claim so. I do have an idea of what I am talking about and saying my response was junk just because you disagree does not make it so. It proves you have a limited mind and are sheepole. The game does not have to be made to suit YOUR expectations or desires. That is not how games are made. They do not have to be tailored to the individual player and how they want it to be ever. Not my fault if you cannot understand it.
-
I'd have to disagree with this response. You make a point that Bungie shouldn't just keep the status quo in game mechanics, but they did just that with the repetition and grinding found in all casual MMOs. And I would have to say that they actually took two steps back when it came to immersion, story-telling, setting, character development, etc... It seems to have "devolved". It hasn't even hit the bars previously set by RPGs and MMOs in that respect, so it definitely didn't improve on those aspects or "evolve" those aspects into a new, better experience.
-
They never promised full immersion in a manner that you would never have to leave the game ever to learn anything. They never promised the full story all in one game. They never promised hours of cut-scenes and dialogs. They do not have to hit the bars that other games did. They do not have to do what other games did. No company does ever. They do not have to follow suit in how other companies made their games or did their story telling ever. Not every game is going to be an evolution of a past game or game genre all the time. This is just the first game as well, it was not ever going to be perfect in all aspects of how it was going to work. Do not ever expect perfection from a company when it is their first attempt at a genre that they have not previously worked in. Only fools do this. If the game is so bad and you do not like it, then quit playing it. Move on and find something else. They don't have to cater the game to how everyone who plays it wants them because of some assumptions of what it should be like because of past games they played or it is not possible to do so. Nor should they ever do so.
-
You have wasted SO much time replying dude. Just.....stop.
-
They also said griping story
-
Ummm they did promise full immersion when they released all those gameplay footage teasers at the game cons a couple years ago or did you not see those? The game is fun for mindlessly shooting aliens, but it falls way short when it comes to making the player care for the world. At this point Pong, you know the game with two blocks that bounce a ball back and forth? That title had more of an engaging story than Destiny does.
-
No they did not promise it. they never said you would not ever have to leave the game to learn anything. It is just a game not everyone is going to care about the toon or people in the game, nor does the game really have to make you care either. Not true, for pong has no story at all and Destiny does. Just because it is not as long or as deep as some players want does it make the game bad for everyone. This is just the first game, it was not ever going to be full or complete all at once for just 60$. The story is meant to take 10 years to tell. So will be over several different sequels before the full story is told and everything is understood by the players.
