I have some mixed feelings about Xur. One big issue is the value of exotics going down. I don't want to complete the raid and receive Monte Carlo and then have Xur sell it a couple weeks later. Yes, it's a random drop system but that feeling of reward when finally getting something great from a raid shouldn't be spoiled by a merchant that can sell exotic stuff that only takes a few days to get. My idea is this,
Have Xur sell exotic weapons and armor specific to him. Items such as an auto rifle of the nine, chest piece of the nine, etc. something you can only get from him with strange coins. That way the value of the normal exotics stays the same, and we can get some cool new gear we have never seen before.
Exotic warlock robe covered in a shroud of black mist with tentacles coming out of your back? Yes please
Edit: Monte Carlo was just an example, should have used a different one since it's a ps exclusive but too late for that now lol.

What ive seen before in regards to Xur is that people always forget this is just the start of the game. The exotics we have no are essentially entry level and after a few DLC are released most of us will have moved on to bigger and better gear. That being said it seems like xur will only be selling these entry level items (just speculation of course) and once new better weapons come out they wont be added to his loot table. For example vex is a gun that is supposedly bot in his list of things he can sell, so we would have a bunch of guns similar to the vex that are only obtainable from raids, random drops, etc.

Ive said this before, i wish xur could spawn elsewhere than the tower, any location currently available with a 3 hour location swap. Just make him harder to find.

1 ReplyDon't forget that destiny is still new, bungie probably has 20 more ideas they think will make awesome exotic weapons, and they probably aren't going to give them all to Xur, hell there might be a whole buttload of exotics that are already active that no one knows about.

I say no because they would have to add more content and make it either stronger then raid gear thus making it the thing everyone needs to hit level 30 or weaker then raid gear thus some would ignore it almost entirely and some players cannot obtain strange coins easily either they have crappy lucky or do not have time to buy agent of the nine gear (work, family, etc etc) to get a full set of gear (much like Xürs current 1 gear for a class per week and maybe a lucky engram for that persons class) some people wouldn't have the time to grind every week to get an item for the class they want and if it repeats (think warlocks and sunbreakers) people would storm the forums in greater numbers saying "why did Xür sell the same item as last week?!?!". While you're point has its pros and cons Id say stick with the current style.

I personally think the price of his exotics should be raised dramatically. 17 coins for one of, if not the best sniper rifle in the game is ridiculous.

What another man has from random loot drops, in no way should effect your game. I've carried crybaby noobs like you through the VoG, just so they can get back to back exotic drops while I get a fugly ship. I've yet to get an exotic to drop but watch people getting 2 or 3, and whining because they already got it... Just go away...

Xur then sells an exotic I want that weekend. Should I not buy what he's selling because its not as cool as getting it as a drop? If I do buy it, should I feel screwed over by Bungie if the same item drops next time i run the vault? The answer has to be no on both counts. You can't rely on RNG to give you what you want. You can't rely on Xur to sell items you don't already have. What you can do is realize that random is always going to be random whether it coincides with drops you've received or not. I guarantee you, you could get everything ypu wanted from the Vault every week, but if Xur was selling something you didn't have and wanted, you'd have no moral troubles picking it up. So don't worry about what he sells and what drops, you don't get to decide what weapons you get in most cases, so don't attempt to police what other less lucky people get to buy.

He's there for people who are not as fortunate to have exotics drop for them, and for 13 or 17 strange coins or 21 motes of light someone can progress their character faster. To me it sounds like just because you can not get what is needed to buy things from him no one else should.

1 ReplyMaybe Xur should sell only exotic engrams, one for each type of gear. This way it would be random equipment and then people can't complain about having the same items. Then people would just have to complain about RNG.

Your idea is based on a false premise: that exotics are unique and better. They aren't, they are quirky and interesting and add some flare but that is about it. They max at the same damage as legendaries. There are weapons (and armor even!) you can only get in the raid and Xur will never sell them. Of course if your little "my gear in a video game makes me special" heart is set on a "unique" exotic, one almost no one will have, get Vex Mythoclast.

5 RepliesI agree, whilst I'm glad I've got the ice breaker, I've thought along a similar line about him selling specifics when people whinge about him. I don't think I'd be happy if he started to sell my " patience and time" for 17 coins, though I wouldn't cry on here if he did.....

That feeling of accomplishment when I got a legendary engram from a level 2 shank that turned into Truth was amazing. The best feeling in the world.

Last time I checked there is no Auction house or way to sell your exotics to other players. Is it exciting to get things randomly, yes. Just yesterday I got a legendary engram from the mail bot, and they were gloves which I needed. I was super excited! But does that outweigh the fact that I have been trying to earn strange coins for the past 2 weeks to get an exotic from Xur this weekend? I think your "few days" time frame is a bit short. You can get 9 strange coins guaranteed from the weekly heroic strike. You still need 4 more and you can MAYBE get those from public events and crusible, but they are random. We can look at a popular game, World of Warcraft, for a bit of an example. Yes I understand they are 2 ENTIRELY different games and I understand that, but the loot systems have some similarities. You can raid in WoW and not get a drop of any boss that you down. Been there done that. I know from experience. However, you can get alternate currencies from doing heroics and raids so you can purchase the same things that drop in the raid from a vendor in case you have bad luck. You can usually buy 1 item per week sometimes every other. Please don't shame us who grind out rare currencies to reward ourselves every other week or so.

I think he has a limited stock of exotics. There are a few that can't be obtained through Xur or bounties.

I actually agree with this. It should be his own gear, but at the very least he should cycle through stats on the gear so he isn't just another useless times faction like Queen's Wrath or Iron Banner.

Why do you care if others get exotics? After all these will be the people you matchmake with. Quit being a big pussy the game is about finding weapons you aren't the only one playing

I decided to buy the red death when he had it and since then I've had it drop for me twice. I'm not bitter or even that bothered the energy is just as useful.

I do agree that some things should only be rewarded vice bought but if you get it rewarded that's just more strange coins for you and less for everyone Else right
