Yes it's running on a modified form Halo 4's engine but it plays and feels like Halo 2.

The multiplayer is running on the Halo 2 engine (for Halo 2) either that or I misheard them

The campaign is the Halo 2 engine but they reworked the graphics to make it look like next gen.

The Halo 2 Anniversary MP is running on a modified Halo 4 engine that imitates Halo 2 gameplay. The normal Halo 2 MP is just Halo 2 MP with nothing changed.
