What I think you are not seeing is that Bungie built this game as a DLC delivery system. They pretty much use the mobile game formula of shallow but addicting play. Don't really see them changing that now.

Pretty sure they were stated as calling Destiny a fast passed story driven action shooter, with epic scale. I repeat the story driven part is what we want.

Would love to see them actually add a story since the lore is really cool. Just don't see them doing it. Hope I'm wrong!

They probably won't but if enough people aren't happy they have to respond or lose fans and paying customers.
