No, your not alone. Having said that it's not like I could find them before the patch either. Last I heard, the new patch makes Exotic Engrams a lot more rarer but it also guarantees that those Exotic Engrams will turn into Exotic gear.
As for myself, the day I can find gear that's better than rare in quality is the day hell freezes over.

I get slaughtered when I attempt them by myself thanks to all the difficulty modifiers.

Dude take it slow. Ease into it. You can't just rush in and expect to make it all the way to the end.....oh wait what the hell am I talking about.

Easiest one is on earth the mission where you get the engine for your ship hang back and just use a sniper only thing that comes after you are a few shanks. You can start the missions and if its not that one just return to orbit the queens wrath in your inventory dont dissapear til you kill the boss did it 4 times in a row (mind you had to go to orbit/restart about 3-4 times to get it) and got a few items

Managed to solo Restoration and got a legendary helmet for my troubles ( which is what I needed, I'm not sure how I would reacted if I got legendary robes since I went out and bought some earlier ). The difficulty modifiers did make it quite difficult, It's weird watching my health dip so low with one hit, these missions definitely require patience.
