It's not about the rarity of the items that makes it special, it's the process to get the item that's rewarding. Bungie has stated that over and over. To get those weapons that you got bounties on, you had to do a lot of stuff, it was work...and you were rewarded. Same with Xur. You had to work to collect those couins and motes of light. You put in the work, and you get rewarded.
You have almost 6 days worth of time into this game, quite a bit more than an average player. That's all well and good, but just because you have all that time to invest in the game doesn't mean everyone else does too. Since you have so much free time, it seems like these things came easy for you. Cut that time in half, and those items become more precious. It's not that they are easy to get, it's that you have more free time than most.

I'm not talking about the bounties. The bounties are good. But coins arnt hard to come by. Especially with the recent engram farming it's been raining coins. Which means every 2nd player has gotten exotics by buying them... which is about 1000 times less exciting then rolling one. I'm trying to speak from a design perspective. Xur has created a culture where exotics are very easy to come by, which almost makes legendarys obsolete. The only reason people use legendarys is because they can't equip more then one exotic... When it should be the other way around. People should be getting exited over legendarys and then loosing their shit over that one exotic piece that trumps them all. Instead your farming legendarys to fill the gaps to the exotic which you bought off an npc before you even got half your legendarys.

You are correct, to a point. Coins are kind of easy to get..sort of. While you can get them from farming, it still takes time to get them. Then it takes more time to save up enough to buy something, and then Xur has to have the item you want...so again..it's the process. Even if you are filling up slots with legendaries, you still need to upgrade the legendary items, or they are worthless..so people can't just farm engrams for that..they acctually have to do strikes, weeklys, and dailly missions on more then the standard settings. So people ARE earning these coins...it's not being handed to them....

Edited by CoDroStyle: 10/2/2014 2:48:50 PMXur always has a piece of armor for every class. You might have to get lucky with the weapon... like the suros regime last week, which if you play Pvp you should know is the biggest pain in the ass since 80% of players have it now. You wait till Xur has the ice breaker in Stock. I bet you will see a massive influx of people complaining about him. "Ice breaker used to be so rare... now everyone has one" will what they will be saying. At some point Xur would have rotated through every exotic item in the game and I think that it would be very stupid to be able to acquire all the exotics via that method. That's what this game is about. Exotics are supposed to be apart of the end game loot. Your not supposed to be able to get them till late game, when your raiding or running Lv28 weekly's Yet players fresh to level 20 can hit 2 up in their first week if their lucky enough to get the coins and the motes.
-
Well, that's the point you are missing, not all Exotics will funnel through Xur. Some are raid and bounty only. While you may be correct on the Class armor...so what? 1)You still need raid armor to hit 30... 2) people who are buying items from Xur and not people with 50-60 coins every week. The are people who saved up their 13 coins over the course of a few weeks. So it may take them a month of game play to have enough for a weapon AND a piece of armor...and then Xur has to have the correct items. So again it's the process. They are earing that item. 2-3 weeks at 2-3 hours a day, to get a fraction of what you have, see the difference yet?

But instead of saving up coins for 2-3 weeks you could have rolled legendarys in strikes (god forbid the new engram system works) and already be on your way to nightfall and raiding which will most likely give you an exotic at one point which a much great feeling of satisfaction. I understand where your coming from, there's a very delicate balance between trying to keep your hard core players feeling like there's still something worth fighting for and your more casual players feeling like there's an impassable mountain of unachievable gear in front of them. Considering the power of exotics I think they should be way harder to get. Their on par with raid items... which funnily enough you can only get from raids... Why is it you can buy raid class armor from an npc at lv24... see where I'm coming from. If xur sold legendarys instead of exotics it would give lower level players access to higher strength gear without giving away the strongest armor in the game. .. basically what the queens wrath missions are for... lol

Edited by AnyOLName: 10/2/2014 3:32:01 PMQueen is so broken, it's not even funny. I get nothing but Chest and head pieces...oh..and one sniper rifle. The point I'm trying to make is that they are not supposed to be rare. They are supposed make you work for them. Ever hear the phrase; "It's not the destination, it's the journey to get there."? People sitting at the loot cave(if the orginal was still working) would never earn enough coins to buy what they needed from Xur and still get legendaries. You have to go out and earn them, by doing the daily, weekly and bounties. Even if they do spend enough time there to get what they need, they are obviously haveing some kind of fun.

The queen is stupid. I've seen the item list. She is supposed to have a hole set of legendarys and weapons yet the only items you get from her is a chest and helm. Literally I think she is broken in both respects of the word. The loot cave was actually the most effective way to get coins. Every blue engram had a chance of a coin drop and yoi could average 15-20 blues an hour at the cave which would be the equivalent of 3-5 coins. Pretty decent for an hour. I personally got bored of the cave after about 3 hours. I never got a legendary from it. What made it effective was not the actual legendary drop rate but the high blue drop rate which allowed you to level up the cryptach which then gave you legendarys in return. So basically your getting coins and getting legendarys from upgrading your cryptach aswell -_-
