Agree 100%. It's the only level that's packed with cool cinematic setpieces: the lights coming on and revealing Fallen crawling everywhere, the Ketch dropping in an knocking over a colony ship, or the Captain and his minions leaping off the ship they're scavenging.
Admittedly it lends credence to that Reddit post that said the original story was supposed to have a lot of epic moments like those.

Edited by Grypheon Steele: 10/3/2014 10:40:16 PMI agree. There were some nice elements in the first mission that are never seen again. As you mentioned: the lights coming on revealing inside the wall and it's enormity. The fallen climbing on the pipes. The beginning scene were you are told to move and you see a close up of the Fallen pouncing on the hood of the car. The fluorescent light fixture that swings down and scares you at one point. Finally taking off and seeing another guardian/stranger standing on the roof of the building...made you excited to find out more. Also, the use of trip mines, only seen again in one Strike. The enemy ship warping in and knocking one of the launchers down...finding the enemy vehicles covered with tarp to hide them from view...etc

The trip mines weren't even actually in the strike. It just looked like mines but was actually just transparent wall. We could actually do something about the mines.

Exactly, playing this again after reading that just makes it seem all the more valid. If the rest of the game followed suit, I would be recommending this game to everyone I know. But it doesn't, and I won't. I just really hope that whatever inspiration was used for the first mission is used for the dlc or next games... I know it's too late to redo the missions that currently exist, but please make your levels and missions to that standard of quality. Not whatever standard you were using for the rest of the game..
