Well you have to ask yourself: "Who cares?" I have a rare ship and it's nothing but a fancy hat. And rarely have I seen someone else's ship and said, "wow.. I really need one of those" Even the sparrows.. does it really matter to upgrade to better speed or damage resistance? Until sparrow races are implemented, I say no.
