I noticed something rather interesting when I was browsing my collection of Destiny photos on my phone. I was looking at pictures of all the guns featured in the Drawing Boards, then went on to look at the new GI screenshots. Here is the gun used by the Warlock and Hunter in the pictures
(Which I've identified as the Monitor S11):

It was then I realized it looked strikingly similar to the Red Death. I began to compare the two guns, matching up parts such as the grip and the angular piece near the top of the weapon, and that's when I realized that they were exactly the same.

What I think this means is that the Red Death was originally a Monitor S11, but was heavily modified by someone. Maybe bandits, or maybe even a rogue Guardian, done to better suite his nefarious needs. Let me know what you think. I'd love to hear some more theories.
The rifle is said to have been taken from a fallen Guardian and redesigned by a new owner who had it repainted and modified. The optics were even hacked to implement new graphics.
