Turtle beach and some other ones are really nice. Great sound quality. Sony's are PS head sets are some of the best believe it or not. I like ones with cords because I don't have to charge them they don't have interference or any of that. I use some cheap azz Red Samurai or something but they are strictly for coms. I can't hear the game play through it. It is a single speaker with mic but it was only about $15 :)

I don't mind spending a bit of money. I currently use the Razer Carcharias with a Logitech USB to audio jack adapter but I have trouble hearing people because I can't boost the audio volume. I am kind of liking the PX3 headset.
