It's silly to throw all that out & replace it with speculation (fungus, spores). It's like taking everything The Last of Us is about (cordyceps, spores, etc) & replacing it with "I think the virus is actually robots that want to help humans & I'm right so I'm going to get mad at anyone who doesn't agree" Nice try though. Maybe you should write fanfic?
