I think the system is fine the way it is. It promotes people joining FireTeams before doing activities, especially those that want to use voice-chat.
I been playing WarFrame recently. There is a matchmaking system and you automatically have voice-chat. Nobody ever talks and some you can hear their mic on, when I try to talk to them they don't respond I just hear them breathing and background noise, don't ask me why they have their mic on then.
Right now yeah everybody is gun-ho about it but what most don't realize is people just jumping in a game to have a little fun usually don't talk to other people. You are asking for a feature in a couple weeks only a selected few will use.
Could there be better ways for people to communicate or group up with? absolutely! I just don't think proximity chat will be as useful as people think.
For now you can click on people you are looking at and can invite them to group. Maybe send a message to their PSN or XBox account first and trying to talk to them. Take advantage of the tools we have and hope something better comes along. I didn't vote yes or no, I am not against it I just don't see it being used. It's one of those things that sounds better on paper.
Is it really going to worth the time to develop and test when they got other stuff they could work on?

It doesn't promote people joining fireteams. There's literally nothing in the game that says to join a fireteam if you want to talk to people. If you like the current system, that's fine, but they should at least explain that system to reduce player confusion. Currently, all that's promoted is the notion that everyone in the game is ridiculously antisocial.

Edited by Ninebreaker: 9/6/2014 10:49:23 AMIt's hard to say how much people would end up using it but I think it would be used a lot in the tower to find people to raid with.
-
Proximity would be awful in the tower, has to be a better way.
-
Why do you say that? It's unlikely everyone would be using it all in one small area, so I don't see the problem.
-
It's prox chat... That is a social area... Lot of people will be talking over each other. I seen it happen in other games. Honestly I can see it useful for use things but not for finding people in tower. You better off trying to contact them through xbox or ps systems.
-
If that happened people would just spread out. If there was a particularly annoying individual people would just mute them. It would also be great in explore for public events. One of the most depressing moments in the beta for me was after helping take down a walker in an event we all stood there for a moment. A few people danced or pointed, then we went our separate ways. It would have been a lot cooler if I'd been able to talk with them. It just seems like such a no brainer feature for Destiny, especially when it was marketed so heavily as a social game.
-
If it such a no brainier why are so many against it? Does the game need better communication tools for forming groups? Yes it does. But proximity chat isn't the best fix for it at all from my experience in other games. They need a tool that says this guy wants a group for exploration on the moon if you want to join. Or this guy wants help with this story mission. That would be more efficient then a prox chat.
If it such a no brainier why are so many against it?
The poll says otherwise. And I don't understand why people would be against an option that literally has no effect unless they want to use it. Like, just because you don't want to use it doesn't mean other people shouldn't have it.
They need a tool that says this guy wants a group for exploration on the moon if you want to join. Or this guy wants help with this story mission. That would be more efficient then a prox chat.
Believe me, I've posted a LOT about wanting to see something like that implemented. But it and prox chat aren't mutually exclusive in any way.

I would agree with you, if the fire team system wasn't so clunky. Its a pain to invite someone. And if they even accept they get teleported back to the starting area, which is a pain in of itself. Combine that with the fact that maybe they don't like you, or your play style, or one of you finds the other annoying. Now all that hassle was for nothing. Bungie either needs to smooth out the ways players interact or overhaul the fire team system. I'd be happy with either.
-
When then for the most part you do agree with me, I said they do need a better war to communicate, I wasn't saying it was fine now. I just don't think proximity chat will fix anything. As I stated it sounds better on paper. There is got to be better ways to handle it and I seen better ways to handle it.
-
Your very first line states that you think the system is fine the way it is now. I don't think its fine, and I don't know if a proxy chat will fix anything. What I do know, is that the fire team system is clunky and hard to use when it shouldn't be. For a social game it sure lacks ways to be social, at least ways that are easy.

Edited by Amusekus: 9/4/2014 10:04:00 PMWell I did say that but I meant it more as proximity chat wouldn't be more useful since that was the topic. Sorry that was just poor wording on my part. Yeah I think there needs to be better in game tools for people to find each other. EDIT: as far as the going up to your ship part. Deej has said there was things that were not in Beta cause it wan an older build and knew people would complain. He never made details of those issues but have a feeling that is one of them. I hope so.

warframe for pc or for ps4? if its for pc make sure you have the push to talk feature selected off, and also make sure your mike is not muted for pc or ps4, if its for ps4 that you have it. almost every game i join in ware frame people talk. and the communication helps a lot! lets same i am farming for morphics for example, i will say if you see any morphics please mark them for me! and what do you know? people help out and il leave each round with 2-3 morphics instead of the one i would find trying to do it without asking for the help. proximity chat has tons of uses and its obvious more people or ok with this idea then are not. i agree it may be a little much to ask them to have it in one week before launch but it could always come in an update. and as far as your comment
people just jumping in a game to have a little fun usually don't talk to other people.
i find this to be extremely false in any game i have ever played... as long as you dont sound like an idiot or have an annoying voice people are rather jubilant when they hear some one else starts talking in a game. i have even joined games in the past and asked "does any one have a mic?" and have seen players stop moving, then heard the familiar sound muffly sound of some one putting on a headset fallowed by "sorry i had to go get my mic" so the though of being able to communicate for a rather large amount of people is so great they will actually stop their gaming experienc to go and grab their mic. further more this option doesnt even effect people like you who dont want to use it. you can simply just turn off chat and act like it doesn't exist. one of the problems i have with the chat the way it is now, is that it makes it very hard to co-ordinate attacks on creature that are very strong this is just one example of what i am talking about here. in the beta there was lvl 12 armoured fallen guarding a cave, this guy was so tough that my team of 3 lvl 8+ (i use the + because we had put several hours of play into the lvl 8s we were using so the skill tree was beyond a normal lvl 8) actually ran out of bullets before we got him bellow 1/8 health. we actually had to keep one person there toying with him so he couldnt regenerate while the rest went and got more ammo to come back and finish him. it took the three of us 4 tries to finally kill him and normally id be static about taking out such a hard enemy. but what was in the cave was only a mere 150 glimmer... if there was prox chat i would have been able to call the three people farming in the area to help with the endeavour and saved allot of time on making that miesly 150 glimmer.

That last part has nothing to do with anything I said when you were referring to toggling it on or off. I said I don't think it would be used a lot so would become a waste of resources. Toggle on and off has nothing to do with that. Your last example was actually the first example of proximity chat being useful I seen BUT I still question if anybody would listen to you. I guess a bubble (area) chat would be nice for that situation and public events. For trying to make groups in the tower I see it being a mess. I don't know how you do things in WarFrame. I just use the matchmaking, not trying to really met anybody. Every time I go through a public matchmaking people I say hi or what's up never has one person respond. Now this mostly early on parts of the game too which could be a factor, which also would say same for Destiny. I see people that get into end game strikes and other activities lot more vocal. Just for the fact those people are really into the game and want the best experience. Lower level the people that voice chat will be more limited. That is just what I truly believe from any game experiences I have.
