Seeing all these comments of people supporting OP is unbelievable.
If you honestly think feminism or more female friendly games are a problem, then you are the cancer festering within the industry.
Feminism isn't attacking the gaming industry, you are corrupting it from the inside.

Feminism isn't attacking the gaming industry, you are corrupting it from the inside.
Modern feminism has decayed into a cancerous element in society. It has become almost a war on boys if you will. Which is sad because I'm sure there is a good message a mission statement in the feminism movement but it is clouded by all the PC and general bull crap. Honestly the videos and articles I've seen really put the movement in a bad light. Now more women in games, that's cool I dig it. I was having a conversation with my girl friend the other day about Thor being a woman now. I was interested I told her at the change, but was also worried that Thor has become a girl simply to quell the wrath of modern feminism. She can be a new era Thor who is a woman, is gay, has a PhD in astro physics or whatever but if the character is bland, the personality is weak and development void then all she is a waste of time. If we want strong interesting and lovable characters who are female in games then they have to be those things first. And keep the politics out of it. And one more thing, women are sexualized in comics and games yes. But so are men. And if it takes you a while to get that, then perhaps your a bit sexiest yourself...if only subconsciously

My point was that modern feminism "decaying" (its just really a few loud bunch that ruin the image of the others) isnt a reason for people to hate and abuse all feminists. The reaction these feminists get for putting out their view on games are way out of proportion to what they deserve. Death threats, verbal abuse, spamming inboxes and phone numbers to the point theyre unusable. All because they had an opinion. At the end of the day these feminists are still human and have the same rights to free speech as everyone else. -- I think youre confusing attractive characters with sexualised characters. Just because a character is attractive it doesnt mean they are being displayed in a sexual manner. There are a ton of games with over sexualised female characters, and barely any with males. And i assure you im no sexist

A few bad apples could be dealt with. This goes a bit deeper then that. Course they are human, and as such have human rights, no one disputes that. And I have my rights as a human being to ignore them or to disagree with their ideals if I am so inclined. And lastly I make no confusion as to sexualized characters. There are many games with sexualized female characters. This is true. The female body is a beautiful thing, and not to mention sex sells. You will no doubt find more female nudity in a game then male nudity because that is what consumers want. Maybe not all consumers but the majority. But even still, there is a great deal of sexualization and over imposing of males in comics and games. We just don't see it like that because were so used to it.

Youre entitled to your opinions and criticisms of feminism. However just because feminists have issued death threats doesnt make it ok for others to issue death threats to them. There is a deep problem on both sides here. But lets remember that this isnt feminism vs gaming. There are problems within extreme feminists, there are problems within the gaming industry. Were just dont see many of the problems within gaming because were so used to them. (i didnt want to copy your last comment but its so true) A lot of devs are now realising the importance of female presence within their studios, we just gotta wait for the consumers to come to terms with the shift towards more female friendly games. If you want one example of a typical mysoginist gamer, look at OP.
It means that feminism is attacking games for not having "strong female protagonists" or "excessive nudity" or "violence towards women." Feminism is intruding on the culture of gaming. It's attempting to censor, limit or judge the entertainment consumed by those of us who call ourselves gamers. If it succeeds, video games will never be the same again. No longer will the content of our entertainment be determined by what appeals to us, by our rights as gamers.
Apparently having more female gamers automatically means more feminists controlling and censoring the games we play. Op has some weird mentality that the gaming industry, one of the fastest growing media platforms, is an exclusive culture. Its like an adult equivalent saying "No girls allowed in my clubhouse". Hes right about one thing, video games will never be the same, they will appeal to ALL gamers, female and male, not just OPs "rights as a gamer" (seriously what rights do you have for being a gamer?)

And a shift needs to happen. More women in the industry is good. I agree. We just need to avoid empty appeasement because that helps no one. And I agree. Times are changing, things are different. But we must as gamers remember to keep an eye out for good games with good characters and stay away from crap games and empty appeasement, because ultimately it's our money that will pay their bills.

Death threats and the like. I forgot to mention that.

As opposed to people who don't agree with modern feminism. I personally find this idea ludicrous. Modern feminism as it stands doesn't do much good, but staying on the topics of video games it has been my experience that they cry foul whenever a female character is not included as a main character in a game just because. I find this as stupid as Peta getting their knickers in a bunch because Mario wears a raccoon hat. I want strong, and interesting characters in games, I don't care if they are white, black, gay, straight, boy or girl. I like the diversity. I do. What I don't like is empty appeasement toward foul crying groups.

Edited by ProwlyB: 9/2/2014 5:27:20 AMActually, I blame the current decline of college male graduation rates and record high male unemployment primarily on feminism. Is it really such a stretch to anticipate future problems on down the line?
If you honestly think feminism or more female friendly games are a problem...
Not sure what one of those things has to do with the other...
Actually, I blame the current decline of college male graduation rates and record high male unemployment primarily on feminism.
ok? Were you trying to show your irrational hate towards feminism
-
Edited by ProwlyB: 9/3/2014 1:24:04 AMIrrational? No, irrational is what modern feminism has become. Actually, it's funny because lots of people enjoy labeling men as "emotionally stunted," but as soon as a man expresses a valid criticism of feminism, accusations start to fly about hatred, sexism and misogyny. It's like clockwork. Remind me again how it's possible for a man to feel HATRED...when they're supposedly nearly void of emotion in the first place?
