To clear up a misconception people have, there is nothing wrong with true feminism. Feminism is supposed to be about the equal (not superior) right of women to men, and that's cool I'm down with the clown on that. What a lot of people have a problem with, that you have described, that a lot of women who call them selves feminist *cough* Zoe Quinn *cough* is Misandry. It's a word that popped up in the ninteenth century and it's the same thing as Misogyny, but with a woman being a culprit not a man.
There's a difference between, "can a woman's body armor be more breast plate and less breast", and, "all men are inherently Misogynists and no matter what they say or do I'm right I'm the victim and the man -blam!- me by breathing in the same room as me". Your doomsday concern will never come to be though. At the end of the day all games are slaved to their narrative and story writers will always write the story they want and sorry but The Last of Us will always be best as a fatherish daughterish story and nothing says space marine like an impossibly large man with muscles so large he has no neck. Rather I believe we're going to end up seeing more diversity in games then an oppression of what we already like. More options are all ways good.
As a bonus thought it's odd spell check knows what misogyny is but not misandry and I find this far more fascinating then I should.

If its about equality why isn't it called equalism or humanism?

Edited by vIRL_Warlock: 8/31/2014 6:17:03 PMJust a word formed using the intricacies of english. Specifically feminism means ,"the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men." That is a by definition description and there is nothing sexist about it. Humanism is actually an entirely different issue. Humanism is, "the belief that the human character is the basis of all things society." Rather than Humanism the word that best fits your thoughts is Humanist which is defined as, "a person having a strong interest in or concern for human welfare, values, and dignity." Note that this definition doesn't explicitly state equality in any way. Also note that being a Humanist does not align necessarily with Humanism. That is because Humanism is a word that popped up in the 15th century where as being a Humanist showed up much later. Surprisingly equalism wouldn't be an actual word with in the english language unless we change some definitions of prefixes and suffixes. Equality covers your description of "equalism" as I assume you intend it to mean but much like being a Humanist it doesn't mean what you think it does. English has a lot of words, I believe more than most other languages and all of these words have definitions associated with them. So much so to the point that a word was made specifically addressing equality between men and women which I don't believe in any way is a bad thing. It is people that misrepresent such things that are the problem. As to why all of these words don't seem to have a set definitive pattern like the suffix -ology it would be because unless you're in a field of science people just say what sounds good without comparing definitions to previous words making what should be organized and consistent a mess of confusing words. Now for my personal jape; I assume you're one of the people that didn't understand my initial post, the one about the difference between feminism seeing some equality between men and women, and misandry which is about bigotry on women's part.
