Spanking only tells the child that it did something wrong - not [i]what[/i] it did wrong.
It may work in extreme circumstances to calm down the kid, but they will never actually learn anything from it.
They may stop doing what's "wrong", but not because they understand why it's wrong, only out of fear for punishment.
