Had a technician come work on my internet a week ago and saw I had an xbox one. He said he had a ps4 and likes it but also mentioned the same problems you said about the controllers, and that he has sent in 4 controllers to sony to be replaced for free, plus a shipping cost. I don't have a ps4 so I can't comment on the quality of the controllers but he seemed genuine about his plight.
