I am from USA but live in Japan. Did you know that in Japan when your nose is running, it is more polite to sniffle, then to blow your nose in public.
In the USA I feel it is the opposite. Just blow your nose so I don't have to hear you sniffling all day. Is one way better then the other? Well, in my opinion yes. Blow your nose! Why? Because of my culture. Does that make me right? Nope. But it certainly is interesting.

(^_^; IME, the whole runny nose thing is overblown :p But seriously, I read the same thing, yet I've seen plenty of Japanese who blow their noses in public. So either I live in a rude area of Japan, or they just don't give a shit and the "it's more polite to sniffle" thing is old info :D
