As long as it's PSN I don't think it matters. My understanding is that those with like consoles (e.g. PS3/4, Xbox360/One) will be able to team/raid together.

Your understanding is wrong. If you're on ps3 you can't team with ps4 your saves are on same server tho, meaning if you have the game on both you can freely switch
