Yeah that made me think of a little kid changing a rule mid game and trying to come up with an excuse.

Pretty sure there was lore behind that. His suit is full of nanotechnology (pretty sure that's it), and can upgrade while in cryo with the help of an AI.

In all honesty, there's very little to no lore at all behind his armor change. While I love his new armor to death, the explanation behind it is utterly bogus.
