One major flaw in this plan mate. Activision Blizzard confirmed that over 4 million players logged on to Destiny during its beta phase, and as of this comment, you only have 23 replies to this thread.
Lets say, hypothetically, all your replies were from individual posters. Thats only a 0.000575% response rate to your lame ass idea.
The odds of running into anyone on this thread are incredibly small. So when you start throwing yourself off the tower in the vain hope that someone here happens to see you. I hope it was worth it.
Stick a sign up board in the tower or a customisable emote to signal your willingness I say. It would take no time at all to implement and would be a helluva lot more effective than an idea that has people asking "is there something down there I should be looking for?" while you cry and wonder why no one is inviting you to a raid.

Bro! Come on man! No need for the snarky comment! This isn't for me anyways. I have a clan with plenty of people so I'm good to go. I'm just trying to offer up a solution for the way we have experienced the game currently. What you are talking about is an enhancement that Bungie would have to code. And unless you are a Bungie developer working specifically on Destiny you don't have any way to determine the level of effort for the suggested fix. So don't deem it easy. Come on bro. Save that snarky shit for the COD forums. We're way more mature here.

Are you telling me that you don't believe Bungie doesn't have the experience to implement some form of in-game signal which shows you want to join a Raid?
-
No. What I am saying is, based on what we've seen in the Beta, I'm guessing that Bungie's primary focus between now and the release are bug fixes, not enhancements. Granted, this is an enhancement that is perceived as sorely needed by the community, but if Bungie cannot make this change before the release, then we need an agreed upon way to signal that one is looking for a raid.

And your first thought was to have players flinging themselves into oblivion in the hope of an invite? We could just have an agreed meeting place. The room below the hangar, for example.
