That's assuming that the beta build we played was the most recent build they have and I highly doubt that it was. Wouldn't they have to go and block a bunch of areas if they used the most recent code? I'm sure what we played was made months ago. Hopefully what we see on launch day is a more polished and balanced build than what we played.

They changed the enemies in those certain areas to "impossible to beat" levels in order to keep us contained to a specific test area. Those enemies will be there in the final game (though much weaker), and that's why it wasn't simply invisible walls.

There were a few sections that seemed like they were physical walls as well the Jupiter section of the building the hive ship crushed for example. While I agree that it felt like a stress test, they did not need a final build to do that.
