They had a thread earlier that deej was a part of that was all about this and I believe it was said that later bonds create a holographic sleeve over the whole arm.

looking at pictures of them, its only a hologram over the band itself and is still very small and hardly noticeable .

No, they project a hologram...decent size ones from the legendary ones I've seen..
