Well, based upon what I have gathered, it was the Darkness that tried to "stamp us out". Humans are allied with the Traveller and the other races (Cabal, those robot things, the Hive and The Fallen) are allied with the Darkness. So, it is very likely that the Collapse was caused by a combination of those Darkness allied races.

Yeah, new details indicate The Darkness, but I have to wonder what the Darkness could be offering these races. Especially the Vex, as their time traveling robots. But yeah, it does seem like the humans, exo and awoken represent the Light, as they've allied with the Traveler, while these others have sided with the Darkness. It does finally explain why they've encroached into our solar system; it's not random, it's all the work of the Darkness.

Yeah, it is basically Light vs Dark. It will be interesting to see how Bungie handles this new universe come the release of Destiny. Bungie doesn't usually disappoint with the lore. Can't wait to explore this universe in depth.
