I totally agree. I quit playing BF4 because of the Lag on these "Dedicated Servers". My internet connection has ping time of 20 ms to my isp (50 to 100 ms across North America), 50 Mbps down and 11 Mbps up (I'm in Alberta Canada). I was being head shot while hiding inside concrete bunkers from across the map. I would be sneaking along a road, and suddenly an enemy tank / gun vehicle would "pop" into existence 30 feet from me and kill me. I emptied clips of guns into enemy players and they single shot me dead. If that's what "Dedicated Servers" bring, count me out. And the only time "Dedicated Servers" work is if your physically close to the server. The further you are from them, the worse your game play is. In fact, if your playing with spatially close friends, your better off having a locally hosted game - assuming the host is picked based on lowest lag and bandwidth - something 343 Industries did NOT do for Halo 4.

  • Ya but they did update their servers and there's no rubber band lag.

  • Good to hear that. Unfortunately, I sold BF4 - so I won't buy it again to find out if it's fixed for me or not on XBox 360. I liked the intermix of both vehicles and soldiers - much better than COD and getting closer to what Halo was. The odd thing is that in the 16 hours or so I played the BF4 Beta version, I did not have those issues. It's only the release version where I had theses sorts of problems. That's why I am not very impressed with only having a 4 day Xbox beta test (your likely going to lose a day downloading the 12+ gigabytes game on day one). If they have issues like this, will they be able to correct it and then let us test it in 4 days time?

  • Dedicated servers do not negate lag or connection incapability. Ever play World of Tanks? Ever shoot at a tank and you can see the shell hit the enemy tank, but no recognition what so ever of a hit? Look at the lobby and who is in it. France, Ireland, Russia, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, United Kingdom, the dreaded Canadians,.... It never fails that if you have shots not connect, screen is jumpy, that you have foreign people in your game. Medals don't show up for 20 - 30 seconds after they should have. Servers don't fix that. Sometimes they exacerbate it. There is no such thing as parity in online gaming no matter the host situation.

  • Yes. The problem is that the foreign people are intentionally abusing the ability that the difference in connection to the server that it affords them. They are not where you see them when you shoot, nor are you aware that they cab see you prior to being hit by them. So the problem with servers isn't the server itself, it is the manipulation of intentionally being on one that they should not be on. The servers should be inaccessible if you are not within a certain proximity of it. To me, that is a fault of the people running it.

  • Ever play World Of Warcraft? Talk about great servers. It's lag free. Unless your latency is bad.

  • You are right. Servers don't inherently solve the issue. But if you look at it from an architectural vantage point it is far easier to deal with a dedicated server than the more typical P2P (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-peer) associated with most console games. Even if there is some lag compensation, a dedicated server implementation provides a more stable platform from which to try and "level the playing field".

  • Awsome! I hadn't herd that there were going to be dedicated servers yet from an official source. Good to hear.
