I remember thinking that was the way it was going during the cutscene in 'Cortana' when MC retrieves her, then seeing how disappointed she was when he put himself in Cryo when they were on the ship instead of staying up and keeping her company. But I was hoping 343 would've gone a different route when they announced they were gonna milk Halo like a cow. Then I was hoping they'd not try to make me buy books and watch TV shows to keep up with the story they were trying to tell, instead making the game(s) primary canon and all other media (save 'Forward Unto Dawn) background and gap filler. At this point, I gave up hoping.
