Planning on starting a "PC Cafe"

Basically I was thinking of buying a lot of high end PC's and connect them by LAN (Potentially Internet capable) for people to just book time to play some of the best games on PC together or alone. Would you think something like this still has some degree of success or do you think its a pointless thing now? I was also considering consoles for the younger players during the summer holidays to play on the best consoles and games (Some kids don't have consoles at all so it would be a new experience for them). Besides the Paedo jokes do you think it could work?

    • Just don't let a Korean die in there. I've heard it's bad for business.

      • If the town has a high gamer-population, and you can get a few groups of regulars, it could be successful. The start-up cost for something like that is pretty high though. 16x PCs for 8v8 multiplayer. 16 x $850 = $13,500 That's not including the rent, business-grade switches, internet, etc...

      • It depends on the neighborhood. If I were you, I'd do a survey in the area on if someone would use that service or if they have their own computers.

      • I had an idea like this, but it was based more on console gaming. It may or may not work; it depends on location and population. You'd want it in a town/city with a high gamer population.

Sounds good in theory, but if you stay closer to a college or high school pc's for doing work would be better. I doubt students would need gaming consoles when they are busy at college or high school. Maybe start with 4 pcs, a couple of printes and two consoles. If the demands grow then get an extra pc and console and let them pay themselves, if you keep having more clients then get more consoles and pcs. Don't start big, start small.

            • There's a place like that in my town. I've never been there because I've got my own PC, but I know people who spend time there every now and then.

            • It's a pretty good idea. I went to something like this when I was younger and couldn't afford a good gaming PC. So, it would be cool to have in the neighborhood, and would probably be successful.

It could work <.< One thing that would probably be a pain is all the licensing for the games, I'm not sure how it would work but I'm not entirely sure it would be easy to sort out.

              • I've seen this business model used before, and it can work, many college towns have gaming cafés. Just some things to remember: Start up costs will be high, probably $700 for each PC, $850 after monitor and accessories. You'll also need a space with high traffic, preferably near a high school or college. Games cost money, and you'll need to manage several different steam, origin, and Uplay online accounts. You have to get loyal customers, offer 3-6 month passes with perks, and weekly/daily passes at a higher price-time ratio.

                    • Honestly, sounds like a really cool idea. Don't know if it would work, but if there was one where I lived, I would be there in a heartbeat.

                    • Why PC's? Honestly, all jokes aside I would go for consoles. If you want cash go with consoles and let kids hire it out for parties and stuff I don't know many kids that like PC's tbh You could have both if you have the money
