You can change the color of your armor, its just quite expensive

Exactly, I played the alpha for prolly 15 hours and never got any tho, I hoped they might be dropped by enemies, but they can only be bought which kinda stinks lol but at least they exist

It would be cool if they were dropped by enemies or unlocked through challenges, like specific patterns that can't be bought.

He meant buying shaders. That was the only way to change armor color in the Alpha. There's bound to be plenty of different shaders within destiny.
