How is Rugby not as tough as the NFL???? Extra in OP

Just look at that video even for a few minutes, sure the NFL gets hits similar to that but they have pads. Rugby players get broken bones or even Knocked out on the pitch and stand back up after a few minutes. Some extra info It's the toughest sport in the world
Leeds Rhinos full-back Ben Jones-Bishop once played 25 minutes against Wigan with a cracked skull, Great Britain's Paul Deacon fractured the roof of his mouth in a 2005 international against New Zealand and Warrington Wolves prop Paul Wood played on with a ruptured testicle, subsequently having it removed.

International rugby league players lose more playing time through injury than any other sport - 220 hours per 1,000 compared to 112 in American Football, 80 in ice hockey, 40 in football and 10 in cricket.
Rugby Shoulder Injuries - Prevention & Screening
John Wilkin wrote in February 2010 “the new GPS system which we wore during the Four Nations attached to a man bra under our shirts consistently showed us that we were taking impacts of 10g’s and upwards during a match. The gravity force of a car travelling at a 100kms per hour that comes to a stop in 0.2 seconds is 14.2g’s and we don’t have airbags.” As you can see the forces involved in rugby tackles is equivalent to a car crash.
Keep in mind Rugby union is a softer version of Rugby League because it has less tackles.

  • Why play a sport that does permanent damage to your body anyways? Football is not innocent at that either

    • I've played both Rugby and Football. While I enjoyed both Football was always a bit tougher IMO. In Rugby no one is wearing pads, so most (non professional) players are a little more careful during their tackles. Football, however, everyone is wearing pads and a majority of the players grossly outweigh rugby players, and they don't really hold off on their tackling like Rugby guys do.

      • Why is this even an argument? I think the safety rules being established in football is better towards the players living healthy lives after football. I find it unnecessary to argue which sport can kill you more easily.

                • Pads really only help prevent injuries from the person doing the hitting. If anything it probably causes more injuries for the other person. Would you rather be hit full speed by someone wearing armor or nothing?

Because rugby players arnt 6-5, 250+pounds (usually more) and can run as fast as soccer athletes. It's irregardless that football players have to wear pads. They wear pads and still get just as much injuries as rugby players do. Although I don't really expect you to understand. Many football tackles are illegal in rugby too, because they are so dangerous. That shows that football is more dangerous. If you've never played football/watched it, you wouldn't really know. (Youtube doesn't count). Also your point about people playing on injuries is pointless. People do that in every sport.

                    • To my understanding rugby is football without pads, so rugby is more tough. But let's be honest. Do you really want to play a contact sport without safety gear?
Consistently taking impacts of 10gs
For comparison a fighter pilot in a roll will feel an acceleration of about 9 gs. http://www.popularmechanics.com/_mobile/outdoors/sports/physics/4212171 Where as football games can routinely produce hits of around 100gs. Yes, rugby players often take more punishment/injuries. That's because the nature of their sport at least makes it possible to play without equipment.
