How do you accidentally put your cleat into the skin above the shin guards. It was a red card, and the refs didn't see Suarez bite. Zidane got the red card a long time ago because a side ref saw it

A lot of people are saying he was trying to spin around and put the cleat behind the ball to block it or kick it the other direction, but it's hard to really tell. I'd like to point out a few things based on the video above. - his leg was lifting up at a normal point in his stride while he was running and he was running pretty close to full force, so it's important to note the momentum his leg had at that point simply from running - to add to that, the Uruguayan player ran right into his path, and given his momentum it would be hard, if not impossible, to avoid impact there; you can even see the Uruguayan player brace for impact (and maybe even throw his body into Marchisio) - I'm guessing it was a red card because of the perceived intent, so there's a couple things to note regarding intent here 1. from the first angle of the video above, it does appear Marchisio is focused on the ball and is looking at it the entire time until contact with the other player (from an angle only slightly above level with his head, you can't even see a single part of his eyeballs), so it seems he was playing the ball and not paying attention to the other player 2. Marchisio's leg is contracted throughout the impact with the Uruguayan player until after his cleat hits the other player's leg, at which point he extends it to the ground (not in the direction of the other player's leg), so it's as if the other player simply ran into his foot; if Marchisio had the intent on kicking the other player, you'd think he'd extend his leg toward the other player's leg There's a few other minor points to make here, but I'm too lazy to list them all. I think there was too much uncertainty with Marchisio's intentions and the perceived recklessness of the play to give a red card. I certainly would've called a penalty, and maybe a yellow card, but not a red card.

Good observations. It really should not have been red.

  • Check the internet and see that you are in the minority. It was accidental and if anything the red card should have been given to Suarez as soon as Chiellini started protesting.

  • I just googled about it and all the articles are about how Italy was foolish and he shouldn't have placed his studs in the dude's thigh, nor should his foot have even been that high in the first place. You're just blinded thinking many people support your belief because you're mad.

  • You are searching with biased words. Of course the search results would be in your favor. I googled "Italy red card"
