Ain't DeeJ guys, it's me. But if warnings and removal of your off-topic (for this tag) posts isn't enough of a warning and/or hint? Fine. We'll take it to the next level.

  • Do you not want people to contribute to this forum?

  • If you guys take #Offtopic away then the Floodians will move to #Clans

  • How can a #tag be taken away? Are people really that paranoid/stupid? Jebus, everyone's jimmies are coming pre-rustled. This isn't a freaking battlefield, it's a goddamned forum. Post within the rules and things are cool. Tag your posts appropriately for the topic and it finds the best audience. #Clans isn't a place. It's a -blam!-ing #tag. #offtopic isn't a place. The Flood isn't a place. Really. It's not rocket science.

  • The "official" tags serve as forum categories, don't they?

  • They are still just #tags. If the floating top bar were to go away, or to be filled with #tags only related to Destiny.... there would still only be one forum, and the #tags would still serve their purpose. If people want to and insist on thinking in the model of "multiple forums", then they can use their "followed tags" (on the left below the CoC) to have their favorite "forums" available to them with a single click. The idea/concept that "I am a member of #destiny, or #offtopic, or any other tag" is understandable, but it is an illusion. We're all members of this site, there's only one forum, and #tags are there so that topics can be more easily found by people looking for particular content and so, it is in EVERY OP's best interest to properly #tag their threads.

  • I see what you mean, but #offtopic and #destiny are very different. Different kinds of people post in each who post in different ways. I don't want it to be like this, but it's just sort of the way things developed and it won't be easy to stop.

  • I can't help and really don't care if people want to self-identify into their own social gatherings. My role is to make sure that topics are within the guidelines of the Membership Agreement and the CoC and that they are tagged appropriately in order to put them in front of the most appropriate audience. It's not a "bad thing" that someone considers themselves a "member of ____", but it is no concern of mine. Unless or until their self-identification results in an "us -vs- them" post on the forums. That is where I get involved because we're all members of this community and internecine feuds/spats/attacks are a violation of the CoC.

  • Disliking newfomen (hate that word, but apparently the real word gets you banned for some dumb reason) because they're annoying isn't personal attacks or harassment, though.

  • I don't care who anyone likes or dislikes or their personal reasons for doing so. But insulting, attacking harassing or disrespecting another member in a post? Yeah, that sucks.

  • I understand that, but I just don't think that identifying yourself as belonging to a certain tag is illusionary. I see "tag wars" as childish, but the whole "land grab" thing is really just a joke. What bothers me is that carpet bans might be spurred up when they are unnecessary.

  • Carpet bans are a thing of the past. Retagging when appropriate, warning when necessary, and banning if people don't "get the hint" are the steps of escalation that I see as reasonable. It's the "us -vs- them" thing that I don't see and won't tolerate. I don't mind if people decide that there is an "us" and a "them". It's when they insist on putting a -vs- into the concept where I get involved.

  • So its OK for people to distinguish between mods and members, but when they think there's a conflict between the two they've crossed the line?

  • I wasn't speaking about distinguishing between moderators and members. There is no difference between those two. Moderators ARE members. I am saying that when people self-identify as (a hypothetical example) "Der Floof" and decide that "WE are nothing like those idiots in (another hypothetical) "Derpsterville" and we need to do all that WE can on these forums to make THEM, who aren't us, miserable". That sort of inter-membership ankle-biting is what I was speaking of.
