Never really experienced Halo 2 or CE so I'm genuinely excited.

Me too man! I jumped on board with a halo 3, but I did play Halo CE on PC

Halo 2 mutliplayer was fantastic. This wont completely mimic the old days, but it'll come close! As for CE, technically no one has experienced it over xbox live yet! Just xbox connect and on the PC servers.
