Ned didn't know that the king was going to nuke kings landing. Jaimie didn't tell him. From Ned's point of view he broke his sacred oath and stabbed the king he swore to defend in the back.

well nobody's perfect but in a show where one of the "good guys" remorselessly paralyzed a twelve year old when he saw him -blam!-ing his own sister, I'd say he's one of the most moral characters in the show.
