It's not so silly, and it actually works having all of your entertainment run through the game console.
My wife and I pay for LIVE, Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Crunchyroll; and the whole bill comes out to less than half of a comparable Cable/Satellite subscription. Less than half.
If I were to get the same services to watch the same stuff on a cable company's box, I'd easily be paying $120 - $170 USD per month. As it is now, I pay $60/yr for live and $40/mo for the other three services combined.
I'll take that deal any day of the week. Entertainment on my game console? Not bad at all.
Sony's issue is they want to sell you another gadget to get it done. It isn't like this is a software update to allow the PS4 to do this, this is a whole separate peripheral that they're trying to push. I think that in itself is one of the reasons this is failing.
