And given Mart still owns shares and thus dividend damage from the timing will also hurt him more than any "unpaid leave" entitlement ... perhaps this is the prelude to a more serious claim to come.
In what world did bungies ego let them think there was no down side to this ?!?

Then you must also know it was a board of directors decision, not a team decision. Business. Though the talent he lent to Bungie has solidified them in the industry as a AAA company, they are still limited by those who run their business. For some strange reason the BOA thought it was best to lay him off. Though I have no clue why because he was pretty much the soul (and an achievement by namesake in Reach) behind almost ALL of their games.
Then you must also know it was a board of directors decision, not a team decision
Maybe ... the announcement would have come from the board as Marty was himself part of the executive - and that is how it works (you do not have junior members of leadership dismissing their "boss"). It will be interesting watching the case (if bungie forces it to go to court) to see who exactly was leading the call though. This would have been personal. This is part 1 in a multi-part play. Given the grievances being presented (how much can that unpaid leave be worth in $$ ??) are minor it is obvious that Marty is using this to establish cause - the current "no cause" ruling does not allow him to establish malice. He will be pushing bungie to defend and thus force them into claiming cause and draw on round two. Well played Marty - take that knife out of your back and insert it deeply into bungies heart (aka bag of cash - bungie doesn't have a real heart).
