I just don't get it, what could possibly be a better setting for Assassin's Creed than feudal Japan?
-assassins can be ninjas, Templars can be samurai (this is pretty stupid but I just thought of it)
-complex power dynamics and factions
-new area of world not previously covered (opportunity for fresh setting, etc.)
-it's freaking feudal japan why not
Why? The French Revolution is still interesting. Just imagine storming the Bastille.
Plus, Napoleon was seen holding an apple of Eden in AC2, so he's likely to -blam!- some shit up with it.

Like with any annualized franchise, you know what you're getting when you buy into it. The only things that generally change drastically (in this particular instance) are the locales. My personal preference is Japan. If it's not in a time period or location that I would particularly enjoy playing in, I know that I can skip this title and play a previous title without missing out on anything too drastic.
Here's hoping they make an Assassin's Creed set in Japan one day.
