Solar roads are trying to become a thing bro. it's already becoming a thing.

They aren't viable :( Some of the problems are: -bad traction during rain -tiles are structurally worse than continuous roads -wear and tear is inevitable and high tech materials are harder to replace than tarmac
-
the Surface of the hexagonal shape is ribbed to hell, simulating the same traction as the asphalt The tiles are tempered to shit, and said glass is looking to be over an inch thick, and the pieces look to be embedded into concrete Wear and tear were factored in the industry is being PRIVATIZED FIRST as well. they aren't planning to go straight to obama and make them change the roadways. the guy in this video has no bloody idea about the tempering of glass, OR how the privatized sector plan is, or what the video were talking about when they were talking about the custom LED configurations.
the Surface of the hexagonal shape is ribbed to hell, simulating the same traction as the asphalt The tiles are tempered to shit, and said glass is looking to be over an inch thick, and the pieces look to be embedded into concrete Wear and tear were factored in
It might simulate the same traction as asphalt for a while, but glass is relatively soft so the ribs will be worn down to a smooth surface in a short time period. I'm not familiar with the tempering of the glass, but I can't imagine that they will be able to drastically improve the hardness of it without decreasing the transparency. Asphalt in itself isn't very hard either, but it's mixed with minerals aggregates to create blacktop. If a small surface layer of this blacktop is worn down, another layer with the same friction coefficient is exposed, so you don't have a smooth surface.
or what the video were talking about when they were talking about the custom LED configurations.
He's just saying that the implementations of the configurations aren't great since you need an immense amount of electricity during the night to power them (since the storage of electric energy that is collected during the day is not feasible) and that high powered LEDs aren't visible during the day.

Edited by Tyger: 6/2/2014 11:21:52 AMYeah but we have no money to build that shit. Also imagine how long it would take to replace our current roads with new ones.

They're going private sec first, and only on the driveways and sidewalks of houses that ante up for it. then they hope the Govt. funds it.
-
They should make pitches to big box stores like walmart, target, etc, to have their parking lots done.
-
I think that's the plan. make it widely popular, and then deal with national roadways.
-
I'm aware of it's appearances here and there. But Fossil Fuels have a bit of a lead over it. By the time the transition is done, the damage will have already happened.

Edited by Mega Blaziken: 6/2/2014 4:57:15 AMnot if they fund it, and get the government to see it very soon, besides, they're doing it privately until then and then making their design widely available.

I'm certain that Oil companies have enough money in their pockets to nudge politicians in the "right" direction. It seems that until that kind of thing is stopped, we're just going to see things go down.

yeah, and then the voters threaten against voting for the dumb politicians, and boom. stop being such a cynical asshole man.
