What do you want to do with it......
Plink? Shoot Long Range? Hunt? (If so what game?)
One piece of advice? Stay away from Rem 770...it's worthless. Rem 700 is amazing though.

Winchester Model 70's are even better They come glass bedded and are more accurate for roughly 700-900 dollars

.308 is my favorite caliber. It's antiquated, ballistics aren't great but it's standard NATO so easily found and hits hard.
