As bigrob mentioned in the last episode, I'd hope it was more like the plasma pistol on charge up.
As powerful as the splazer was, it really was a niche weapon that took a lot of skill / patience to use well ( or maybe I'm just rubbish with it ) in any case, if it's the love child of a Spartan Laser, I would actively avoid it if I'm in the middle of a fracas.
I'd hope the charge holds, so I don't freak out and ruin the shot at the second the thing is about to fire itself.

I must be the only one who didn't have a problem with the splaser. If you were constantly charging and letting off you could keep the time to wait to shoot down. The rail gun in Halo 4 (I know it wasn't a Bungie title though), was quote similar to the splaser but with less power and a lot shorter charge time.

That's true, and halo 4 just dumped the battery while charged - infuriating! However it was super useful to give you a second or two to get your victim right where you want it. I never felt in control of the splazer, I always thought I was working for it, instead of it working for me. I really want to like the fusion rifle though, so fingers crossed!

Anything can be mastered with practice but as Deej says,
There’s a gun for you in there somewhere, with a firing pattern that will feel match-fit to your beating heart.
If the fusion rifle is too Splazery for you, then follow your heart to something better suited to your talents. After all, there will not be just one single cohesive light based armament in Destiny!
